Applications of Low Level Laser Therapy

The Secret Glow is one of only a small number of acupuncture clinics in Manchester offering this state-of-the-art treatment, which can accelerate the benefits of conventional acupuncture and reduce pain faster without the use of needles. The laser is very low power thus, offering a safe and pain free treatment for patients who may not be comfortable with needles. This unique therapy has proven particularly beneficial for the relief of symptoms from cancer treatment in patients in Manchester to help them reduce the side effects associated with chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments.

Tissue Regeneration

LLLT can speed up wound healing processes, trigger wound healing that is impaired, reduce the risk of infection, and prevent the formation of keloid scars. These effects are more significant in blocked, impeded and stagnating wound healing than in normal wound healing processes. When dealing with superficial wounds (e.g. scratches and scrapes), acute injuries (e.g. contusions) and postoperative wounds, LLLT can be employed as a sole therapy. In these cases it can prevent wound healing disorders and the formation of keloids as well as achieve better cicatrization (contraction of fibrous tissue formed at a wound site by fibroblasts, reducing the size of the wound while distorting tissue). In the case of chronic and/or serious wounds, LLLT is always employed as an add-on therapy to complement standard, guideline- based wound treatment. Clinical studies on the promotion of wound healing with LLLT do not try to demonstrate the equivalence of LLLT compared to established, standard therapies. LLLT does not postulate any so-called non-inferiority claim – which, incidentally, a clinical study would be unable to demonstrate anyway for ethical reasons. However, it does claim for itself the status of a highly effective add-on therapy which should be employed, for example when dealing with wound healing disorders and treating wounds that respond poorly to a guideline-based treatment.

Pain Relief

At our acupuncture clinic in Sale, Manchester treatment for pain relief can be applied by different therapies, not least Low Level laser Therapy (LLLT). In addition to wound healing, pain relief is the second major endpoint of clinical LLLT studies. Pain is associated with a large number of medical indications. Since pain is typically part of a syndrome, studies on pain relief with the help of LLLT always refer to a specifically defined pain situation, such as neck pain, painful epicondylitides, tendinopathies, radiculopathies, osteoarthritis of the knee, or the temporomandibular pain syndrome, etc. Pain relief has been best investigated in pain conditions of the musculoskeletal system. For this reason orthopaedics and physiotherapy constitute one of the primary areas of application of LLLT.

Inhibition of Inflammation

Orthopaedic indications are among the ones most frequently mentioned in connection with LLLT. This is also the field with the most clinical studies on the effects of LLLT. Pain conditions of the musculoskeletal system are often associated with inflammations, restricted mobility, muscle tension, and/or muscle weakness. LLLT can have a positive effect on these symptoms, too, which in many orthopaedic ailments not only translates into an added benefit but is part and parcel of the healing process. There are strong indications that the treatment success in orthopaedic ailments is strongly dependent on the proper dosage of LLLT. Some of the benefits associated with LLLT are:   Increased lymphatic activity and strengthening of the immune system Pain relief as a result of increased endorphin and serotonin release Growth factor response within cells and tissues - Better healing for wounds or musculoskeletal problems Stimulation of acupuncture points, increased collagen and ATP production to improve blood circulation

Sports Injuries
